Please respond to the following questions to the best of your ability to give us an idea of how we may be able to help. You may not have specific answers to all questions, some may have to be answered in general terms.
You may or may not know what you want or need in a facility or healthcare process improvement. It is best to begin with, What are the principal problems, and what are the healthcare infrastructure features or capabilities that you believe are most urgently needed in your community?
Is this going to be new construction, or renovation? Addition to an existing facility? or a process (such as healthcare funding) ?
Renovations of existing structures can be more time consuming and costly and matching existing architecture can be challenging. Existing plumbing, sewer and electrical can be problematic.
New construction, particularly modular or prefab is less headache, more streamlined, but can be expensive. Which financial/human resources have been identified? Are there desirable construction alternatives locally available? Supply chain options? Healthcare education and training? Construction methods, permanence, appearance and costs should be compared and discussed in order to determine which is best solution for each site. .
Site preparation may include partial or complete demolition of existing buildings.
Are there other community activities, industries, or tourism that would support expanded healthcare services available because of additional healthcare facility(s) ? For example recreational outdoor watersports, scuba diving, hiking, rock climbing, or population health challenges such as high rates of diabetes, cancer, obesity related problems, or wild animal interactions?
Is the population elderly and suffering with diabetic, venous, arterial or pressure ulcers? What is the likelihood of burn injuries (open flame from gas or solid fuel fires)
Are there vocational or medical colleges? Hospitals in the region? Military bases? What is the principal mode of transportation?
Where do you think funding for a facility in your community can come from? Local, State, or Nat’l Government funding; local business investors, Medical Schools, nonprofit organizations, International funding sources such as United Nations 2030 Economic development funding, and U.S. Military - National Guard Strategic Partnership Program, USAID. It is expected that client participates in locating funding sources, even if none are found.
A week long visit to the community requesting assistance is generally required in order to understand the health system currently in operation, and to pinpoint the areas of greatest need and priority. What type of assistance has greatest priority to you? Where do you think the facility should be located to best serve the needs of the community? Any thoughts regarding sustainability? Multiple sites can be considered. Dr Gordon is available to participate in site selection and site planning.
In general, the client will be responsible for identifying and participating in the acquisition of the property needed to accommodate the project.
